Let’s start out by thanking Billy Brown, creative mastermind, for the title of this blog.  Often the phrase is overused and totally cliché, but it aligns well with the purpose of posting these blogs.  As you know, most CrossFit gyms call themselves “boxes” due to the utilitarian, bare-bones, box like shape most of them are.  So as the title of this blog indicates, this will be a place to discuss things “Outside the Box”.  We will discuss things inside the box as well, but attempt to bridge the gap between workout PRs and how that applies to real life.

I love CrossFit, I love the sport of CrossFit and I love the competition.  But CrossFit is more than just the Open and the Games.  CrossFit should be improving your life outside the box (see what happened there?).  

The benefits of CrossFit are greater than the physical strengths you build.  Showing up to hard workouts and giving your best efforts, even when it is double unders, helps develop character, perseverance and discipline.  It is working out your mind as well.  When you hit that wall in a workout and still do one more rep, it teaches you to keep trying even when you fail.  

I encourage you to take some time and reflect this week.  Where in your life have you noticed a positive change because of CrossFit?  Have you done something you never thought could do before?  Have you faced a fear? A lie?
